La Dansa de Falgars
It is a traditional dance, whose origins date back to the Middle Ages and is celebrated on With Monday in Falgars Sanctuary.
This dance represents the premarital presentation of the “Pubilla” to the “Hereu”. In ancestral Catalan tradition, a “Pubilla” was the female that would inherit the whole rural estate in the absence of a brother. The “Hereu” was the heir.
Two couples are the main protagonists, a married one and a singles one, all of them dressed in traditional catalan clothes.
The married couple introduces the maiden to the single man, dancing to the rythm of the cobla band music.
After a couple of laps around the square, the audience will join the dance gradually, until they form a big circle of couples moving to music.
To finish the cobla band plays some corrandas and sardanes.
