The former Asland cement factory, located in Clot del Moro site in the municipality of Castellar de n’Hug, operated from 1904 until 1975. Its remains, still visible nowadays, show the spectacularity of one of the most incredible factory complexes of catalan industrialization, located in a unique environment.
The complex is currently attached to Museu Nacional de la Ciència i la Tècnica de Catalunya (mNACTEC) and it houses the Museu del Ciment de Castellar de n’Hug, inaugurated in 2002. The factory and its surroundings were declared Cultural Good of National Interest in 2005, in the category of historical monument.
The visit to the museum allows to understand the impressive set of this industrial complex remains, raised by a group of industrialists at the beginning of the 20th century. The factory supplied cement in times of strong growth of industrial society, needful of new infrastructures, as well as housing and new production sites.
