17. The Castle
The Castle was built in the middle of the fortification, right where you are standing now. The Mataplana were in so much awe at this valley that they established their place of residence in this castle, which would become a strategic place from which to defend their territories of their barony.
On the west side, the building was closed with huge walls and its entrance was through the entrance gate of Sant Antoni (on your right). It is said that there was a second entrance, through a second arch of the Old Bridge that went up to the fort.
Next to the castle, the baroness of Mataplana ordered to build a chapel to Sant Antoni Abat during the first half of the 14th century, only for her family and the noble knights of the barony to prey. The people from the village had to continue going to pray to the Monastery of Santa Maria de Lillet.
