13. The old bridge
A breath-taking bridge dating back to the beginning of the 14th Century, the oldest in la Pobla de Lillet. In old times it was the main and only way to cross the Llobregat river. It was a royal path of passers-by and cavalries from the regions of la Cerdanya, who had to pay for their land use rights to the tax collector. Several theories claim that in the past, the Old Bridge had a second arcade.
In 1370 La Pobla de Lillet was fortified, due to the need of defence that prevailed at that time in all the Catalonian territory. The wall followed the route of the current road B-402; the walls of the fortification of Mataplana had entrance gates and defensive towers.
In 1984 the Service of Cataloguing and Conservation of Monuments of the Provincial government of Barcelona carried out works of restoration and conservation of this valuable bridge.
