18. Santa Maria de Lillet Monastery
Before 1086, a small community of Canonical Augustinians, made up of a prior and 5 canons, settled here. Their lifespan as a parish lasted until 1356, when the new church was built in La Pobla de Lillet and Santa Maria lost a large part of its parishioners and ecclesiastical domains. However, the canonical organization continued until it was secularised in 1592, remaining in the Monastery a beneficiary community under the control of ecclesiastic superiors until the 19th century.
In 1816 there are still records of the community, made up of a dean, two vicars and five beneficiaries. In 1889 the dean is forced to abandon the place and live in la Pobla.
The community lived in the rooms organized around a small cloister. Of the whole complex, there is left a big number of walls pierced by doors and windows at different levels, not always coinciding with each other and which are the result of several structural stages and different usages to the space.
